Hello Azure Customers in the community,

Azure Data Lake Storage Gen1 will be retired on Feb 29, 2024. Azure Data Lake Storage Gen2 offers a richer set of data management capabilities, lower cost, and integration with newer analytics offerings such as Azure Synapse Analytics along with Azure Databricks, Azure HDInsight. We recommend that all ADLS Gen1 customers migrate to ADLS Gen2 for your analytics storage needs. Hi all,

As Microsoft announced gen 1 retirement , can anyone give insight regarding support for azure data lake analytics to gen 1 after feb 2024?
For gen 2 , ADLA still not supporting abfs driver fl, is there any plan for giving gen 2 storage support to ADLA service?
One of our enterprise customer is using this service and we would like to know path going forward and how much we can depend on this native azure service for enterprise solutions .

Thanks for your query, ADLA (Azure Data Lake Analytics) is not supported on ADLS Gen2 today, given we are not investing in ADLA, we do recommend customers migrate ADLA to an alternate framework such as Azure HDInsight, Azure Synapse Analytics or Azure Databricks. Could you please confirm that I understand correctly then: after the retirement on Feb. 29, ADLA will be completely non-functional, since it requires gen1 to operate?

@Thomas Price - Apologies for delayed response. Post reviewing with our Internal team, below is the information we could share as if now.

To extend our customers’ migration cycle to other Azure analytics service, we are in progress to add the ADLS Gen2 support to ADLA, we will share more updates in the coming months. Between the ADLS Gen2 support ready in ADLA and Feb. 29th, 2024, ADLA can run on ADLS Gen2 and Gen1. But after Feb. 29th, 2024, ADLA can only run on ADLS Gen2.

As of March 2022, Microsoft has announced the official retirement of the Azure Data Lake Analytics service at the same date as Azure Data Lake Storage Gen1. Please check out the FAQ section for more information.

Hi,

As Microsoft announced gen 1 retirement, What will happen to data stored in Azure Data Lake Storage Gen1 if they are NOT migrated to ADLS Gen 2 by Feb 29, 2024?

We know that data can't be accessed but need to know, Will data stored in Azure Data Lake Storage Gen1 be deleted or lost ?

And, Would Gen 1 Storage Accounts created by other Azure Services be migrated to ADLS Gen 2 by Microsoft? If not what actions should be taken in this case?

This is important to know because, Enterprise custom applications which are dependent on these (auto created Gen 1 Storage accounts) will stop working and business faces interruptions or loses expected functionality if Gen 1 Storage Accounts are not migrated to ADLS Gen 2 by Feb 29, 2024.

Quick response answering these queries is much appreciated.
