Texted access code

Anonymous

I received two text messages in the wee hours of the morning from 732873, back to back and each containing a different 4 digit code.

Is this a request from Microsoft? I was not accessing anything and my account seems to be secure. What caused this and what, if anything, do I need to do?

    this is 100000000000000000000000% scam procedure

I got VERY close to getting caught

some cloaned the name of a skype pal from Korea

    he started a normal conversation

and asked me for some tech help on some issues

then he said he sent me a code via SMS

and asked me to send it to him

as he was my pal -- I thought nothing of his request

but before I sent it to him

asked him why - ie what was it for?

his answer was odd ... then I pressed him for private info

which he could not answer !!

then logged into my  MS account and found many failed login attempts

yes -- the code was a password reset from MS

somehow  the crook got my call phone and W APP and  Skype name

(probably got all from my Pal in Korea)

Hi BP1956, the SMS short code 732-873 belongs to VerifyPhoneSMS (www.verifyphonesms.com)

The request could be from a number of companies including LinkedIn, Yahoo . .. etc a lot of tech companies use this service

You do not need to do anything . . .

    Hey BP1956,

It sounds like someone was trying to log into your Microsoft account, but was silly enough to try "Forget your password" and to keep on sending it to your phone number.(though, it requires that the attacker gets the last 4 digits of your number). I'd advise you log into your account (http://account.microsoft.com -- Security tab, Review recent activity) and check on the login attempts.

Microsoft outlines why they may send text messages here: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/12377/...

To confirm this is a legitimate text message, what did the message say (remember to omit your code)?

    Let me know.
