Hi,

I am using windows 10. When selecting default apps (for browser and certain file format eg .pdf), the settings app crashes and closes. Please advice.

    Ciao GilbertLTan,

I'm Ugo, a Microsoft Independent Advisor willing to help other Microsoft customers.

Regarding your question, as a first troubleshooting option, can you please try the below?

Go to Settings > Apps & features > Search for the app causing an issue > Advanced Options > Reset > Try again changing the default app.

Please let me know if this helped somehow.

    Ciao

    Ugo

    Hi Gilbert,

How are you accessing settings? I’ve had mine act differently if I access it from different locations.

Click notifications in the bottom right and go to “All settings” - are you having the same issue?

    Press Windows key + X

    Click Windows PowerShell (Admin).

At the command prompt, type the following, hit Enter the restart.

    PowerShell -ExecutionPolicy Unrestricted -Command "& {$manifest = (Get-AppxPackage \*immersivecontrolpanel\*).InstallLocation + '\AppxManifest.xml' ; Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register $manifest}"

    or

    Run the following troubleshooter:

    https://support.microsoft.com/en-in/help/402749...

If none of the above work...

    Run the Start menu troubleshooter:

    http://aka.ms/diag_StartMenu

    If that does not work:

    Press Windows key + X

    Click Task Manager

    Select the Processes tab

Scroll down to Windows Explorer then select it

    Click Restart

    If that does not work:

    uninstall your display driver:

    Press Windows key + X

    Click Device Manager

    Expand Display adapters

Right click the current display adapter

    Click Uninstall

    Exit Device Manager

    Restart

When I try to go to Settings -> Apps & features, the settings app crashes. I can get to everything else in Settings, just not App & features.
