Windows Media Player - Unknown everything 0 bytes

Hello. not sure what happened. all my music is still on my computer but WMP will only play it as a "list" and the songs don't appear as albums/artists/anything like before. I've tried deleting the giant album now titled "unknown" with 300+ songs of 0 bytes and it will not go away. I'm also unable to rip the original CDs back into the library. I just want to listen and view my music like before. what can I do?
