graphic driver update?

I am running Win 10 Pro v1709. Lately my videos have been buffering so I'm wondering if my 'Microsoft Basic Display Adapter' (basicdisplay.sys, dated 6/20/2006) should be updated. But I'm worried if I do then I may not be able to see anything on my monitor when I reboot. If that happens, how could I back off the new 'Microsoft Basic Display Adapter' ?

Thanks,

Dan

You probably need a new Graphics driver for the device. What is the make and model of your PC?

Hi Dan, if you are running Microsoft Basic Display, that is a temporary display driver only meant to be used for loading Windows and it means you really don;t have a Video device loaded

Right click that device in Device Manager, choose Properties

On the Details Tab change the properties drop down to Hardware ID's

Right click the top item in the resulting list and choose 'Copy'

Please paste that hardware string into your next post . ..

Please try these options one by one and check after each option.

    1. Use the Hardware & Devices Troubleshooter

Type Troubleshoot in Windows Start Search box > Click Troubleshoot > Scroll down & Click Hardware & Devices > Click Run the Troubleshooter & follow on-screen directions > Restart the computer after troubleshooting is completed

    1. Run video play troubleshooter

Windows Key+I > Update & security > Troubleshoot > Video playback > Click and run the troubleshooter.

    1. Take actions related to Display Driver

Windows Key+X > Click Device Manager > Expand Display Adapter > Right click on entry below >

    A. Rollback the Driver (You can use this to roll back your driver. For the time being, this step is not necessary)

Click Properties > Go to Driver tab > If there is rollback option, click it

    B. Update driver from manufacturer's website

Go to the website of the driver's manufacturer or computer's manufacturer > See if some driver is released for your model and OS > If yes, download that > In previous option, click Uninstall > Install the downloaded driver > Restart your computer
