windows update failure code 8007054F

I have a dell inspiron N7010-6722 laptop with windows 7 professional installed.

I am experiencing a problem with windows security monthly quality rollup updates. They all fail and the error code give in 8007054F.

The last successful update was KB4054518. Everything after that fails.

I have tried uninstalling my antivirus and installing the updates as a stand alone from the ms updtate catalog and that didn't work.

I tried installing the updates in a clean boot state, that also didn't work.

I have tried googling the error code, but am not finding anything applicable to my laptop and what the problem could be.

What I did find was information relating to the security update KB4056894 being applicable to amd processors, but my laptop has an intel processor.

So, I hid the update KB4056894, but all updates after that are also failing.

Does anyone have an idea as to what could be the problem?

Hello Ralph,

Running the windows update troubleshooter was one of the first things I did. It did come up with an error that it couldn't fix and I could not find a solution to that BUT

I have in the meantime found the solution to my problem thanks to a post on the ms community that I found:

my laptop was missing a registry entry: winevt

Once I put that in, all updated and all is fine!

Here are the links I used, in case anybody else needs them!

remedy proposed by Mr. Botva here: https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/all/kb2962872-failed-to-install-error-code-8007054f/741b2b5a-a391-4fca-b0d3-6ae236fbb4f1

"this error appears, if analytics winevt is missing. to repair it simply import to registry this file.

    Hi Cindy,

Did you already try to run the Windows Update Troubleshooter for Windows 7? It can detect and fix Windows update errors. If not, I suggest you to download and run the troubleshooter:

    Windows Update Troubleshooter.

After the troubleshooter is done, try running Windows Update again and install any available updates.

    Keep us posted.
