File and printer sharing cannot be saved after turning them on.

The problem has suddenly appeared, for no apparent reason:

  • tried numerous suggestions on the web.
  • tried saving after deactivating the firewall.
  • tried after

a) sc.exe config lanmanworkstation depend= bowser/mrxsmb10/mrxsmb20/nsi

b) sc.exe config mrxsmb20 start= disabled

c) sc.exe config mrxsmb20 start= auto

(see http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/forum/id-3372390/windows-discoverable-network.html )

 I am at my wits end.

    Thank you for your concern and assistance.

    1. All the trouble-shooters fail to find any problem.
    2. Your suggestion to run DISM was interesting.

    However, I ran the tool as indicated. It did not report anything.

    The problem File and Printer sharing always reverts to OFFL

    -> change sharing options

    -> turn on file and printer sharing

    -> save changes

    return to 1, the sharing options are off again.

    1. Other people appear to have met the problem:

    (see http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/forum/id-3372390/windows-discoverable-network.html )

    After this action, the media folder of a computer on the network becomes visible, but not the files nor the printers.

    After reboot, the entire problem remains : my computer is not visible on the network, and no other computers visible on the network from my computer.

    1. I am trying to go back to a Windows restore point.

    This fails however, apparently a running process prevents the restore from completing.

    However, I have no anti-virus running and no other background process that I can see.

    Thank you for your support.

    Hi,

    Can you try following methods

    Method 1: Running the troubleshooter will help in detecting and identifying the issue and in certain cases will fix to enhance the performance of the system. I suggest you to run the HomeGroup troubleshooter by following the steps below and check if you are able to connect to the network.

    I- Press Windows logo key on the keyboard, type Troubleshooting and select the top most search result.

    II- Click on View all from left side panel of the screen, select HomeGroup, click on Advanced option and check Apply repairs automatically option.

    III- Follow the on screen instructions and wait for the troubleshooting to complete.

    IV- Check for the status after the troubleshooting is complete, close the window and check if the issue is resolved.

    Method 2: Try to run [System File Checker] SFC scan on the computer which would scan for corrupt system files on the computer and replace them.

    Let me know if that helps.

    Kind Regards,

    Engr. Jamshed Muhammad
