User File Path Name

Is there any way to change the user file path name?  Like C:/users/name to C:/users/newname?

Never mind.  It's either not worth it or too risky.  I don't want to start over with a new account and redo everything and I don't want to be messing with command prompts.  I can't afford to mess anything up.  I'd delete the post but it won't let me.

If I do that I'll lose all my settings and have to start over.

    Hi CinderFox93,

    Open the Settings App

Go to Accounts - Family and other People

Click 'Add someone else to this PC'

Do not provide an Email address - you can skip that part by clicking the option on the bottom right of that window

Follow the prompts to create a new account

    Close the settings app

Log out of that user account

    Log into your new account

Click the Start Button, type netplwiz and hit Enter

In the resulting dialog, select the old account and click 'Remove'

That's It, your new Admin Account will replace the old account

Then you can add back your present Email account to link into your present Microsoft Account

Hi Cinder. I'm Greg, an installation specialist and 9 year Windows MVP, here to help you.

At any time you can change the Microsoft Account to a Local Account, then later change it back to any other Microsoft account you want: http://www.zdnet.com/article/windows-10-tip-swi...

You can also change the account name for both Local and Microsoft accounts: http://www.thewindowsclub.com/change-account-us...

Then to additionally change the User Profile folder name see Shawn's tutorial here: https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/89060-chang.... It is no longer unsafe to do.

I hope this helps. Feel free to ask back any questions and let us know how it goes. I will keep working with you until it's resolved.

I can't find how to create a new user profile.  All I find is how to add someone else, which involves using an email.  How do I create an user profile when my email's already used for my Microsoft account?  Will I have to make a whole new Microsoft account just to chance my user file path name?  I don't want to make a new Microsoft account.

    Hi CinderFox93,

No, it is not a safe thing to do in Windows 10

Windows 10 is different to previous versions of Windows, even though you re-name your user profile, that folder name will not change and changing it can brick your system

The only real way to resolve this is to create a new user profile with the proper name, copy your data over and delete the old user profile
