Windows 10 Stability Problems

Hi,

Windows 10 has recently become unstable on my Dell 8900. I've tried doing a fresh Windows installation but it makes no difference.

One repeatable problem (there are others!) is an inability to install the Visual C++ 2013 runtime. Every time I try this I get an error: 0x80070216 - Arithmetic result exceeded 32 bits.

The associated log file reads:

Any ideas?

I've tried the 1803 update and it seems a lot better. Not perfect, but definitely better. I'll probably just stick with it for now and hope for incremental improvements as the OS gets develoiped further.

I am going to ask you to attempt another challenge. Try upgrading to the latest version, Windows 10 1803:

    Thanks for getting involved.

Noe of the troubleshooters report anything abnormal and, as far as I can see, everything else is in order

The system section is as follows:

    System Manufacturer    Dell Inc.

    System Model    XPS 8900

    System Type    x64-based PC

    System SKU    06B8

I'm currently running Version 1709 (OS Build 16299.402). It came with an early version of Windows pre-installed - I've no idea which, probably the launch edition - and I have kept it updated ever since. Never had any problems until recently.

Sometimes, eventually, the VC runtime will appear in the Apps section as installed. If it does, I then can't uninstall it without getting the same error.

The other major problems I get with the machine are Firefox tabs crashing (though the browser stays up) and Thunderbird crashing out completely. These show up in the Windows error logs.

    Open Start, type: system information

    Hit Enter

    Click System summary

    Look in the right pane

Copy the system sku info into reply here.
