Windows Media Player - Cannot Access Edit Button

Hi,

I recently obtained an MP3 player and have been using Windows Media Player to transfer all the information off loads of CDs onto it.

Some of the song titles are wrong and I want to change them. However, I cannot access the "Edit" button, it is greyed out. When I right click on the song title, the only things I can click are "Add to Sync List" (which appears to do nothing) and "Delete". It is the same if I try to change the name of the album or anything else.

How do I get the "Edit" button to work, please?

Hi CD1874,

You can do that in Windows File Explorer . . .

In fact File Explorer is probably the quickest way to exit the Artist Album . . . etc. on MP3 fiels

Open File Explorer (folder icon on your Taskbar)

On the left click 'This PC' on the right double click your MP3 player

On the View Ribbon in File Explorer, click 'Details Pane'

Select a group of songs or an album of songs

In the Details Pane, choose 'Show More'

Then you can edit those tags . . .

Thanks for reply. I don't think the MP3 player is preventing editing... however I don't know how to check or how to override the settings if it is.

The MP3 player itself does not contain options to edit files, only to delete them. This makes me think it wouldn't prevent editing via the Media Player as how else are you supposed to edit things? I may be wrong.

I tried those links you provided. The second one said my Windows Media player may be corrupted but didn't provide any guidance as to what I should do if this is the case.

Is there an alternative to Media Player that I could use to edit the names? I tried doing it just in the F Drive but the changes haven't made any difference.

    Hi CD1874,

Are the files you are trying to edit the metadata on located on the MP3 Player or on your PC?

If they are on the MP3 player, the MP3 player may be blocking editing - a lot of MP3 players do

If that is not the case, it may be a problem with Windows Media Player:

Click the links below to download the 3 troubleshooters for Windows Media player

Then run each one individually, once that is done, check whether WMP is working correctly:
