Dear Microsoft,

I got emails and phone calls from guys claiming that they are from Microsoft Indonesia:

  • Yatin Kaushik (International Supplier) <v-yakaus@microsoft.com>
  • Dosman Fernando Manalu (International Supplier) <v-donalu@microsoft.com>
  • Prakash ranjan roy Kollam (Intl Vendor) <v-prranj@microsoft.com>
  • Ayuwijayanti Chauhan (Intl Vendor) <v-aychau@microsoft.com>

They asked us to fill in a form on Microsoft software (Windows and Office, and some Microsoft free software such as Visual Studio Code and Visual Studio Express). In the email / form they asked us to take pictures of each license key on the boxes and/or CDs that we bought as a proof that we bought the software. They even asked us to take screenshots of the free software / open source software (VS Code) that we are currently using.

I'm not quite sure it safe that we can send such information (Windows' License Keys) via email to these accounts.

Is this really from Microsoft?

Thank you and kind regards,

--- Baja

We do NOT work for Microsoft.

This is the only check that I know Microsoft has going.

I suggest that you contact Microsoft Indonesia and read the bolded section in my reply about seeing if they know what you have previously bought from Microsoft..

The Microsoft Software Asset Management (SAM) team is proactively engaging with small business customers requesting their participation in a License Verification process.  Customers have expressed some concern with the legitimacy of these communications.  These communications are legitimate and customers are encouraged to discuss the details of the License Verification process with the SAM representative that initiated contact.

Microsoft Software Asset Management (SAM)") states:

You can confirm the legitimacy of Microsoft SAM by asked the SAM rep to provide a snapshot of your Volume License purchase history.  The SAM rep should be able to provide you with a sample that includes the details of at least one of your Volume License agreements.  Only Microsoft would have this detail and it makes it easy to match and confirm against your own records.
