2 Computer Network connected using an Ethernet Crossover cable between the on board RJ-45 connector on each PC.  Both ping successfully, both display the other computers name, but one gives me the Network Error and Windows cannot open Computer2.

I have shared the drive, and the folder to be shared out of desperation, but it still doesn't work.

Computer1  - Windows 10 Pro      IP address  192.168.1.1;  subnet mask:  255.255.255.0

Computer2  -Windows 10 Home  IP address  192.168.1.2;  subnet mask:  255.255.255.0

Both computer have the same shared permission on the file (Everyone and Full control)

Both computer display the other in File Explorer, but Computer2 gives me the network error and Computer1 access everything correctly.

I'm at a loss.  Any other suggestion would be GREATLY appreciated.

In your case addition to issues with Windows networking there is also that 3rd party software with may cause it's own issues.

Do you know if this program communicate directly with IP-addresses?

If so then editiong that hosts file doesn't help. I think you should check network profiles and advanced sharing settings.

    Pauli,

I am not using a router or modem.  I am connected to the RJ-45 on each computer using an Ethernet crossover cable.  It is a LAN, two PC network that I using for offloading Flight Simulator X addons to help with the processing. It is the only thing that is not working in the simulator.  It did work before 1803, but I cannot get it to work now.

"Computer1" is Windows 10 Pro  -  IP address is 192.168.1.1

"Computer2" is Windows 10 Home - IP address is 192.168.1.2

Computer2 is supposed to read data from Computer1.  Then Computer2 provides that data on a monitor in the form of airplane cockpit gages.

The setup of for this is like this.

There is an interface on Computer1 that has network settings that are preset so that both will communicate called Multi-cast Group Address.  Both computers have the same address for the communications.

Then each gage has it's own port number to deliver that data.

The result is then displayed on a monitor connected to Computer2.

The manufacturer of the software, I believe has given up on my problem or me and will not respond anymore.  They no it worked previously and are now washing their hands of it.  But 1803 created this problem and I am not even close to knowing what to do when it comes to networking.

I hope this has helped and that you continue to try to help me, because you are my last hope unless I get lucky and stumble in the the fix

    Mike

One of those latest network issues is that computers have problems to turn names to IP-addresses. My work around for that is use hosts file telling which IP-addresses belongs to which computer. See step 6.
