PC cannot see itself on network

Before the V1803 update my networked PC's worked perfectly using Homegroup. Since the update I have been trying everything but cannot resolve my problem.

My desktop is connected via ethernet and laptop via wifi.

I can see the laptop from my desktop and access all files and folders perfectly.

On the laptop I cannot see the desktop PC or even the laptop itself. I can however see all the other network devices, printer, router, TV, cctv pvr etc. I can print from the laptop as well.

I have double, double checked all of the settings and permissions, even done a Network Reset on both PC's and tried several other suggestions to no avail.

Jim.

If you want something like Homegroup then here is something you can try.

To get you PC's to visible under File Explorer network section then most important part is to start some required services.

Push Win Key and type "Services", locate those services, start them and set Start type to Automatic (Delayed Start).

Services are:

   - Function Discovery Provider Host

   - Function Discovery Resource Publication

   - SSDP Discovery

  • UPnP Device Host

Look more details about sharing from example how I have setup my network to work with Win 10 1803.

"One quick question, in the link to your advice on setting up in section #3 you say set the Services to Automatic(Delayed Start) but in your graphic you show it set to Automatic, not Automatic (Delayed start)?"

Only difference is that Automatic start same time as all other services during boot and Automatic (Delayed) start some time later. With fast PC and SSD this doesn't effect startup time so I choose Automatic this way networking wake up during startup. For slower PC's delayed may reduce startup time.

"I did get the path not found warning at first"

Did you set also these two services to start automatic? If not those will be started by system when those are needed first time and that may cause some delay.

       - SSDP Discovery

    • UPnP Device Host

Nice to see that you got your network working.

Tried again after rebooting both PC's and they can now see each other, I did get the path not found warning at first but after a couple of attempts all now seems to be sorted.

Thank you for taking the time to write an excellent piece of information.

    Jim.
