msdt.exe Application Error

Hi,

I've been occasionally having problems with wifi randomly disconnecting or being unable to connect etc for a few years already, though I haven't been able to figure out why. (Some times I need to wait it out, other times the troubleshooting tool manages to fix it).

In the last few days, it's been throwing an error when this happens, so I'm hoping maybe fixing this error will solve all the other wifi problems.

I don't even see this make and model listed as being compatible with either Windows 10 1803 and 1709:

https://www.acer.com/ac/en/US/content/windows10...

The best thing you can do is go back to Windows 8.

As future Windows 10 feature updates are released it will introduce incompatibility with older devices and PC's. Certain components will not support these changes as observed by some users not seeing transparency anymore. Recommendations include, rollback, block the upgrade or consider upgrading components in your system such as graphics, storage, BIOS, motherboard or purchase a new Windows 10 PC.

Step 1: download Windows 10 1703 from the following link:

https://tb.rg-adguard.net/index.php?sid=74a7cf5...

Choose the following:

  • Windows Final
  • Windows 8.1 with Update 3
  • Windows 8.1 Pro + Core
  • English
  • x64 (64 bit) x32 (32 bit)

Step 2: create a bootable copy

Step 3: perform a custom install

Bit late, but in response to the steps you mentioned earlier:

    • Running the Network Adapter Troubleshooter:

It can't find any issues and then causes the error to pop up twice, once from msdt.exe and another from werfault.exe.

    • Reinstalling the Adapter (Intel(R) Dual Band WirelessN 7260):

I restarted and once I rejoined my wifi, a blue screen came up with stop code DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL. What failed: netbt.sys.

Currently just restarted from the blue screen and the wifi is connected.

As for rolling back, as mentioned earlier, I had to delete the previous version as I was out of space. I assume this is why the "Go back to my previous version of Windows 10" option does not show up / fails. Would you suggest trying "Reset this PC"?

Again, the unstable wifi's been an ongoing issue so I feel like the update's just finally detected it rather than causing it.

I'm going to ask you to rollback, because I am not even finding this particular model on Acers website. This likely suggest its not fully supported under Windows 7.

There seems to be some early adopter issues at this time with Windows 10 1803, if you can, I recommend you downgrade to your previous version until the Spring Creators Update matures with future cumulative updates.

Open Start > Settings > Update & security > Recovery > under Go back to my previous version of Windows 10, click Get started.

    or

Press Control + Alt + Delete

    Click Sign out

At the Sign In screen, hold down the shift key on your keyboard while clicking the Power button on the screen

Continue to hold down the shift key while clicking Restart

Continue to hold down the shift key until the Advanced Recovery Options menu appears

    Click Troubleshoot

    Click Advanced options

Click Go back to the previous version of Windows

Windows Update might attempt to upgrade to Windows 10 1803 again. See instructions how to block it:

    Hi Andre,

    System SKU:             Aspire S7-392_0817_2.03

Windows Version:    Version 1803 (OS Build 17134.1) since May 20

Previous Version:     Originally Windows 8. Later upgraded to Windows 10, I'm guessing 1703 (had to delete due to lack of space)
