Memory Locked by fastboot.sys

Hello Microsoft community,

I come here with an issue I had recently, which I first noticed after doing a reset of my windows 10 device (keeping files and removing all installed software) because it kept crashing. The issue is that my pc when idle uses around 5GB of work memory. In my experience this should be around 2.5 so I checked what was using all this memory and apparently it was Driver Locked. To identify which process was responsible I ran a Memory Footprint Analysis through the Windows Assessment Console and it turns out it was a process called Fastboot.sys.

My response was to turn off 'Fast Startup' in the Power Settings, which didn't help. As it is a native Windows driver I'm apprehensive to just remove it and I can't seem to find a good solution on the web to get it to use less memory.

If anyone would have some pointers or a solution I would be very grateful.

Cheers,

Wheyza

    Hello Wheyza,

The Fastboot.sys is a driver provided by Lenovo. We'd like to know what the make and model of your device is.

Since you've tried disabling Fast Startup from the Settings menu, I suggest that you also disable it from BIOS. For instructions on how to access your BIOS, we recommend that you contact your device manufacturer.

I also suggest that you install the latest drivers for your device. Please refer to this support article: Update drivers in Windows 10.

Update us with results for further help.
