Windows Store error code: 0x80073d0e not accepting external HDD

I am trying to change where my apps will be saved when they download.

As soon as i change from my local PC SSD to a 4Tb Seagate external HDD it gives me this error and will not accept it.

i tried it with my 2Tb WD passport external HDD and there is no problems whatsoever so “clearly” the problem is isolated to my Seagate HDD which btw is the one i use to install ALL my Steam, Epic, Origins games.... NO PROBLEMS AT ALL.

I did a clean boot up, a disk clean up and also a repair disk.

i even change the Drive from (D:) to (F:) and still the same error code.

What is this error? I am also getting another error very similar (0x80073d0d) if i try to download a Game like Forza Horizone 3 into that HDD. I was only able to download it to the local drive and i can not even move it to the HDD.

I’ve seen may threads about these error codes and how is it that Microsoft doesnt address properly these issues.....

Anyone from the Microsoft Team; Please provide a solid answer and a solution over this issue.

    You know Aileen...

i was reading a couple of threads with similar error code problems and one of them actually got very upset because you people offered things he already did and mentioned on the original post.

Right now, you just did the same thing which lets me to believe you guys pay no attention to the problem thats been posted upon.

I FIX the issue and it was not thanks to anything Windows 10 could do about it. Luckily my laptop is a Macbook Pro which also has Windows 10 on Bootcamp.

Booted up on MacOS and connected the HDD and i performed a Repair First Aid which is similar to the Disk Clean up i did on Windows 10.

The First Aid repair tool manage to fix whatever clean up was needed to be done.

After that i went back to Windows 10 and was able to set the HDD as the main drive to download Apps and was able to move Forza from my local SDD.

The solution is to use MacOS to perform a Repair Aid(Disk Clean Up) if Windows 10 just doesn’t seem to fix his own mess.

Maybe next time you guys can pay more attention to the main post before suggesting us to repeat processes while wasting more time doing things we already told you dont work.

    Hi powerhousepr,

To isolate the issue, may I know if you are getting the same error code when you try to move an app from the local SSD to the HDD? Also, do you mind sending a screenshot of the exact error so I can take a closer look?

Did you go through the following steps to change the default location to install new apps?

    1. Go to Settings > System > Storage.
    2. Under Save locations, you’ll notice that the first option reads New apps will save to, from the drop-down menu, select the drive you want to use to install new apps.
    3. Click Apply to complete the task.

What about clearing and resetting the Windows Store cache? WSReset is a built-in program present in Windows 10 which can be used to clear and reset Windows Store cache. This utility will clear Windows Store and app cache files. Since it deletes all cache files of Windows Store, there are chances that it'll fix your Windows Store related problems. You may follow these steps:

    1. Type cmdin the search box, right-click Command Prompt and select Run as administrator.
    2. Type: WSReset.exe
    3. Allow the process to complete, then restart your computer.

If you continue to have this issue even after performing the above steps, please reply to this thread. The system will notify me so I can get back to you and provide you more answers.

    Best regards.
