Lock Excel file to edit only in browser

Hi

Is it possible to lock excel file so, that users can edit it only in browser or via Teams (desktop or browser) and not in desktop excel at all?

Excel file itself is sitting in Sharepoint site document library and the the site is Teams team site.

We would like this because often with several users editing in desktop excel, modifications can not be combined and excel creates several copies of the file. We would like to get rid of several copies with browser (or via Teams) editing only.

    Hi, @IMK ,

    Per my test, we cannot stop users from opening files in client application. We can set the default open behavior to be opening files in browser. However in browser, still users can switch to client application.
