I deleted the incompatible program and the update will not progress beyond this error. I have rebooted and verified the programs are not installed. How do I get beyond thi s?

Did you try Dave's instructions for running batch file?

Again I have followed the link and tried to install the update with the same result. It asks to remove Intuit/Quickbooks from the PC. I removed these using the uninstall tools in Settings/Apps.  The system clearly thinks Quickbooks is still installed. I am stuck.

    Hi,

Updating to Windows 10 1803, the latest feature update should resolve your issue.

The fastest way to get the upgrade is through Media creation tool or ISO file.

Please download Media Creation Tool from the link below and select Upgrade this PC at the first screen.

Hi FB46, this is a very common error when running a major update on Windows 10

Click the link below to download a zip file

    https://aka.ms/AppRPS

    Unzip that file

Double click appraiser.bat to run that batch file

That batch will find the blocking file - delete the blocking file

Then try running the update again . . .

This is a known issue and Microsoft has released an utility to handle this problem.

Download this utility from ( https://aka.ms/AppRPS ) and double click to unzip the file. This has 2 files which you should copy to somewhere on your computer.

    appraiser.bat

    AppRaiserScript.PS1

Double click appraiser.bat to run and it will run and do all required tasks for you on its own to remove required blockers.

After this runs successfully, you can try to update Windows again.
