    Hi breannaprince:

Did you search the HP Support site at https://support.hp.com/ for your exact model of HP Pavilion x2 and then check the Software and Drivers page for the latest certified audio driver?  For example, a quick search of the US support site for a HP Pavilion 10-k000 x2 detachable PC with a 32-bit Win 10 OS directs me to https://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice/hp-pavilion-10-k000-x2-detachable-pc/7439381 and recommends a Realtek High-Definition (HD) Audio driver v2.00 rev B (released 11-Oct-2014) for this model and OS.

A recent Windows Update might have installed a new audio driver that is not compatible with your system and you might be able to roll back this driver update.  Open your Windows Device Manager, right-click your sound card to view the properties and see if you have the option to Roll Back Driver.  Here's a sample image for the Realtek HD audio driver for the sound card in my Vista SP2 HP Pavilion dv6835ca laptop showing the current driver version and options for managing my audio driver.  I wouldn't advise using the Update Driver button since the recommended driver might not be certified for your motherboard and other system hardware but you might be able to roll back the latest update or even uninstall the current driver and then re-install an audio driver from the HP Support site that is certified for your specific make / model of  HP Pavilion x2.

Your list of installed updates might also point to the KB number of a monthly rollup or other recent Windows Update that corrupted your sound drivers.  I don't know what OS you have but the SuperUser thread How do I see the most recent updates installed in Windows 8.1 in “installed updates”?  has instructions for listing recent updates and/or uninstalling buggy updates for Win 8.1.

If you need further assistance let us know your Windows operating system (version, build, Home or Professional) and the exact model of your HP Pavilion x2 detachable laptop.  You've posted your question in the Vista board of the MS Community but I believe that most HP Pavilion x2 detachable laptops come with a 32-bit Win 8.x or Win 10 OS.
