I am running Windows10. Its a refurbished Walmart laptop that used to run 7.

It has not had a successful update in probably a year and a half. Any ideas? I now get the message that my version of Windows 10 will no longer be supported after May 9, 2018... running out of time.

Thx for any help!

    Hi Animal Boy 360, this does happen a lot . . .

The most successful method of applying this upgrade is by using the newest Windows 10 ISO file:

    Click this link:

    https://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/software-downlo...

to download the Media Creation Tool (Click on Download Tool Now), with that you can download the latest Windows 10 ISO - Select Create Installation Media for Another PC, then select ISO rather than USB

Once the ISO has downloaded, double click it - this will mount the ISO onto a virtual DVD Drive

From that drive, run Setup.exe to begin the upgrade

Please backup your important files first, just in case the upgrade goes wrong !

    Downloading the ISO file

An ISO file is a digital or virtual replica of a physical disc. In order to use an ISO you must burn it to a optical disc. In the case of Windows 10, a blank Dual Layer DVD or an empty USB thumb drive. If you are using Windows 7, you can create the .ISO then burn it using the built in Disc Image utility. If you are running Windows XP or Windows Vista, you can using a third party burning tool such as ImgBurn or Roxio/Nero.

    Creating a .ISO file

For the purposes of this exercise, we are gonna use the .ISO option.

Select ISO file, then click Save, Select your location then click Save.

Wait while the .ISO image is created.

    Performing the upgrade:

    Starting the Upgrade

Once you have the Windows 10 Fall Creators Update ISO, you can double click it to mount it then start the upgrade. If you are installing from a DVD or USB thumb drive, insert or connect it, then click the on screen notification. If setup does not start automatically, click Start > File Explorer > This PC > open the drive containing the Windows 10 setup files, then double click Setup.exe.

    Click Run setup.exe

    Wait while setup is initialized.

You can select download and install any important updates before upgrading. This is recommended since it can help to ensure a smooth upgrade. If you are not connected to the Internet, select the Not right now radio box instead. Click Next.

Wait while Windows 10 setup checks your system for compatibility issues.

Accept the End User License Agreement.

Wait while Windows 10 setup does one final check to ensure your system is ready.

    Hello,

I am Sumit, an Independent advisor and a Microsoft MVP here to help. Regarding your issue,

Microsoft provides many options to get the latest feature upgrade manually. You can use any of:

    Upgrade assistant

    Media Creation Tool

    ISO File

to get Fall Creators update right now.

You can use the following guide having detailed Instructions on how to upgrade to the latest Feature upgrade i.e. Fall Creators update using all the three methods:

How to upgrade to Windows 10 Fall Creators update right now

    http://www.yourwindowsguide.com/2017/10/upgrade...

Media Creation tool has an Edge over the Upgrade assistant in my opinion as it offers a greater degree of flexibility of downloading and using the ISO file so that one can deploy it on multiple computers.

Please let us know if you need any assistance.

You should upgrade to 1709 manually.

    1. Right click on Windows Start > Windows Powershell (Admin)

Type following (or copy and paste following) one by one and Enter

    net stop wuauserv

    net stop cryptSvc

    net stop bits

    net stop msiserver

    Ren C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution SoftwareDistribution.old

    Ren C:\Windows\System32\catroot2 Catroot2.old

    net start wuauserv

    net start cryptSvc

    net start bits

    net start msiserver

    1. Type following in Windows Start Search box and hit Enter %systemroot%\Logs\CBS > Rename CBS.Log to something else.

If it doesn't allow you to rename - Type services in Windows Start Search box > Click Services > Scroll down to find the Windows Modules Installer service and double-click on it > Set its startup type to Manual > Reboot your computer

Go to C:\Windows\Logs\CBS > Rename CBS.Log > Reboot your computer > Then go back into the Services App and set Windows Modules Installer Service back to Automatic Startup (Note CBS log files contain information about windows update, SFC etc)
