Microsoft basic display driver on update to Windows 10

Hallo

A few weeks ago I upgraded from Windows 7 to Windows 10.  I have a Flatron E2351 monitor, which opens with a logo LG, "Life's good". But  windows 10 opens it with a 6 cm black margin on the left and on the right. It worked fine when I was on indows 7. Following the instructions in the Dsiplay Driver box I updated it. Windows assures me it has successfully updated, but the black margins are still there.

Windows' alternative suggestion was to obtain a driver from the manufacturer's website.   I searched around, bearing in mind the  monitor is quite old and possibly obsolete. The only link I found was one that got a pop-up warning, white on red, saying "this site is dangerous and may harm your computer".  I hastily hit the "return to safety" button.

So I'm no further forward.

One thing: When I boot or reboot, that white on black sequence that tells me data like BIOS found and in operation, and then  disappears,  being replaced by the blue screen and the picture of an oyster-catcher.  This white on black sequence extends righ across the screen.

So: 1 Is there a simple answer ?

  1. Would it resolve with a new monitor?
  2. Would it resolve with a new PC?  This one is quite old.

    Hi Ken,

Since that PC is quite old, there may be a resolution issue between the PC and the monitor

    That monitor expects a resolution of 1920 X 1080

Right click your Desktop, choose Display Settings

What resolution is that currently set to?

    What resolution is marked (recommended?

    Open Device Manager

Expand out the Display Adapter section

What Display device is listed there?
