Visual C++ Instalattion Problems

Question

Hi,

I have the latest and fully patched version of Windows 10 installed (Home Edition, Version 1803, Build 17134.112).

For some months now I have had major problems installing Visual C++ runtimes. Today, for instance, I tried installing the x64 version of the 2017 runtime for the first time and got the following error; 0x80070216 - Arithmetic result exceeded 32 bits

I've consistently had similar problems installing the 2013 and 2105 verstions of the runtime and it's obviously a major pain, as so much software is dependent on having it installed.

Any ideas?

I suggest that try to install Visual C++  in a clean boot state. This will start Windows by using a minimal set of drivers and startup programs  and to eliminate software conflicts. Please refer to this support article: How to perform a clean boot in Windows. For more information, you can also refer to this YouTube video on how to perform a clean boot.

NOTE: Please go to the section: Reset the computer to start normally after clean boot troubleshooting to boot the PC in normal startup after fixing the issue.

Please update us with results for further assistance.

• An updated version of my Nvidia device driver is failing to install because it tries - and fails - to install Visual C++ Runtime 2017 as a pre-requisite.
• I can (and have) uninstalled VC++ 2015 from the Control Panel. Both VC++ 2013 and VC++ 2017 also appear there as program items, but if I try either the Uninstall or Modify/Repair options I get the same error that I was reporting from the original installation.

• Which 3rd party software requires you to update Visual C++ Redistributable?
• Have you tried to uninstall Microsoft Visual C++ from the control panel and reinstall it?
