2018-06-09T23:00:59+00:00 Get 32 bit or 64 bit depending on your OS.
they have drivers for Windows 7 and 8.1.
I would use the Windows 7 since 7 was a stable OS. The driver is same for both. also download and install the diagnostics utility.
This is how to install it.
go to:
Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Devices and Printers
and remove it as your default printer
Unplug it from PC and disconnect wireless connections to it.
Go to:
Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Programs and Features
and uninstall any software for the printer.
Then go to:
Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Devices and Printers
and delete it.
Restart PC.
Go here and download the windows 7 or 8.1 drivers (Both the same )
https://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice/HP-LaserJet-1000-Printer-series/439423/model/439428
Now go to my weblink and follow on installing in compatibility mode.
Again, use 7 compatibility mode.
restart PC.
If you have any issues installing or uninstalling or it does not work, then follow procedures to uninstall again and follow the instructions on the bottom of my link for deleting files in the Windows\System32\spool folders, restart pc and try again.

2018-06-09T22:33:35+00:00 I'm Greg, an installation specialist and 8 year Windows MVP, here to help you.
If you want to complain to Microsoft use the Feedback Hub app in Start Menu where developers are tasked to process consumer feedback. But Microsoft will not even see it here because this is a tech forums where we are mostly volunteers trying to help solve your problems.
You can run the Printer Troubleshooter at Settings > Update & Security > Troubleshoot.
Rather than spending too much more time fiddling I'd simply Clean Reinstall the printer which always works, lasts longer and actually saves time:
- Power up the printer, if wired unplug it's USB cable from PC.
- Go to Settings>Apps>Apps and Features to find and Uninstall the printer software.
- Next type CMD in Start Search, right click Command Prompt result to Run as Admin, copy and paste in the following command and press Enter: printui /s /t2 (Note that there is one space before each forward slash).
4 Open the Print Server properties, Remove the printer’s drivers for this printer and for any other printers you don't use presently.
- If you get a message about access denied or the printer being in use and you cannot find the driver or any installed program that would account for this, you may restart the computer in a diagnostic startup and then use the printui command to remove the driver package(s): https://www.isunshare.com/windows-10/enable-dia...
You must restart back to normal mode before you will be able to install the printer again.
- Now type Control Panel in Start Search, open CP, choose Icon View. In Control Panel open Devices and Printers, right click the printer to delete the Printer and any scanner or fax of the same name. Restart PC.
- Go to the printer model’s Support Downloads webpage to download and install the latest full software package. Now is also the time to check for any newer printer firmware to install which matters a lot.
Older software may need to be installed in Compatibility Mode to run correctly: https://www.groovypost.com/howto/run-old-softwa...
- Extract Printer software, right click Setup file to Run as Administrator. Follow the setup screens closely as you install the software. For USB it should prompt when to plug in the printer.
If you have further problems reply back with results of each step.
I hope this helps. Feel free to ask back any questions and let us know how it goes. I will keep working with you until it's resolved.

2018-06-09T22:42:30+00:00 THERE ARE PROBLEMS WITH TESE INSTRUCTIONS AND THEY DO NOT COMPLETELY APPLY TO THE LATEST FORCED WIN 10 UPDATE
Please try the steps recommended below to uninstall printer software
Press Windows key + X, click Apps & Features or Programs and Features
Select your HP printer.
Select Uninstall.
Press Windows key + R, type control, hit Enter
Open Devices and Printers.
In the Devices and Printers window look for your HP Printer. If you see it listed, right-click on it and choose "Delete" or "Remove Device.”
Open up the run command with the "Windows Key + R" key combo.
Type printui.exe /s and click OK.
Click on Drivers tab.
Look for HP Printer driver. If you see it click on it and click Remove at the bottom.
Select OK.
Select Apply and OK on the Print Server Properties windows.
Close Devices and Printers.
Proceed to reinstall the driver.
If that does not work...
Connect the printer.
Press Windows key + X
Type: control printers
Hit Enter
Click Add printer
Click 'The printer what I want isn't listed'
Select 'Add a local printer or network printer with manual settings'
Select 'Use an existing port'
Click Next
Under Manufacturer, scroll down then select HP
Over the right hand side, scroll down through the list and look for your printer model.
If you don't see it, click Windows Update and wait while Windows Update checks for the printer.
If it doesn't find it, click the back button, then click Next again.
This time, select HP and in the printer list, select a driver series that closely matches your printer model
Best,
Andre
