Windows Speech Recognition

Hello,

I have recently been testing out windows speech recognition but have had trouble with it picking up background noise.

Whenever I type while using this program, it picks up my keyboard-clicking and it types out "EFT;" so my question is, how do I configure my microphone (or perhaps speech recognition itself) to only listen to me without picking up noise from my keyboard.

I have tried right clicking it, "configuration", "improve speech recognition" while making typing sounds so that it learns to cancel out the extra noise but I am not sure that worked entirely because it still occurs once in a while.

-it doesn't help that my keyboard is mechanical so the clicking & clacking can be quite loud.

Thanks in advance.

    Hello Courtney,

Microphones built into a computer or on the webcam typically pick up lots of background noise. This will distort the audio signal thus, making it difficult for the speech engine software to decode what you were saying. A good noise canceling microphone designed for speech recognition will assure you the best accuracy. To isolate the issue, kindly provide us the following details:

    • Have you made any recent hardware or software changes to the computer prior to this issue?
    • Are you facing this issue only with this microphone?
    • Have you checked the issue using another computer?

To help resolve the issue, kindly refer to this article to set up Speech Recognition again and configure your microphone. We also suggest that you follow the methods below:

Method 1: Diagnose and fix sound recording and audio problems automatically

    Kindly refer to this link.

Method 2: Uninstall the current driver and reinstall the driver from manufacturer’s website.

    Kindly follow these steps:

    1. Open Device Manager.
    2. Locate the Sound Driver and right click on it, select Uninstall.
    3. After the driver is uninstalled, the Device Manager scans for hardware changes, to check for new devices and displays the new devices detected under other devices or unknown devices.
    4. Right-click on the unknown detected device located either under “other devices” or “unknown devices”, right click on Sound device, select “update driver”. Follow the on-screen instructions to download the driver from Internet (manufacturer’s website).

Feel free to post back should you need further assistance.
