Controlled Folder Access blocked C:\Windows\System32\SearchIndexer.exe from making changes to memory.

I have turned on controlled folder access in Windows Defender and have received a couple of these errors.

Controlled Folder Access blocked C:\Windows\System32\SearchIndexer.exe from making changes to memory.

     Detection time: 2018-08-10T05:58:11.746Z

     User: NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM

     Path: \Device\HarddiskVolume10

     Process Name: C:\Windows\System32\SearchIndexer.exe

     Signature Version: 1.273.1112.0

     Engine Version: 1.1.15100.1

     Product Version: 4.18.1807.18075

I would have thought that Windows processes would have been allowed automatically.

Cheers,

Justin

I am sure you are just trying to help, but you have added nothing to Sumit's response and if anything have provided less information. I imagine there are lots of posts that need responses so maybe there isn't enough time to read everything but I really only posted this so that the problem would be fixed in the future. I followed Sumit's suggestion of posting on Feedback Hub as that is apparently the better way to get Microsft Engineering to see it.

    Open Windows Defender Security Center

    Click Virus & threat protection

Click Virus & threat protection settings

Scroll down to Controlled folder access

    Toggle it off

    in later versions

    Open Windows Defender Security Center

    Click Virus & threat protection

    Click Ransomware protection

    Toggle off Controlled folder access

Until most apps are published through the Microsoft Store, this is just one of the trade offs you have to work with when using Controlled Folder Access in Windows.

To be fair, controlled folder access right now is buggy and I suggest you to turn it off temporarily. You can file a feedback in Feedback Hub so that developers can have a look.
