Hi! Microsoft community forums suggested to come here. I am really upset that Microsoft has been deleting its downloads and I was unaware until I needed to download a tool that I used to use quite frequently. Microsoft has traditionally been good at keeping their downloads available for everyone but it doesn't seem to be the case anymore. They seem to be progressing at an alarming rate and this is extremely upsetting. I really would be appreciative if someone could help me source again the Microsoft iSCSI Initiator installer, one of version 1.0-1.06 and I would even donate money to retrieve it. The loss of software is heart breaking and we should be preserving this. If Microsoft does not want to host this, then they should leave it with the Internet Archive.

Maybe to you can open a case with MS to check if there's any internal channel to get the package.

I tried! I called for weeks getting pushed around to different areas. It ended up that the lady in India just refused to even help. Nobody wanted to help and many of the phone numbers are down cause of Coronavirus.
The phone numbers tell you to go to the site and the site tells you to call. Very aggravating.
If you work at Microsoft, I would be unbelievably grateful for your help and wouldn't even be beyond paying you or the company for the help. I'm trying to do some retro projects for both work and personal and iSCSI is the safest thing to use instead of SMB 1.

Any version between 1.0 and 1.06 will work.
I'm really sorry. I took it for granted that these downloads would be there. I'm just trying to create a safe environment for old games preservation since virtualisation causes some of them to crash.

No no. I get that. I know it's old. I need a Microsoft Employee to retrieve it for me. It was not on shelves. It was a free download that Microsoft kept for many years. Microsoft traditionally kept all its downloads live. Please help me get a copy. I need it. It's for software preservation. We can't erase our history.

I managed to find the .MSI installer for the 1.06 iSCSI Initiator on an old HPE driver package, but it wouldn't install correctly on my Windows 98 machine, even after installing .NET Framework 2.0 as it was complaining about the lack of it.
One of the errors from the logs during install was that it required Windows 2000 or newer.
Another problem was that even though it installed with errors, I couldn't uninstall it because of the same compatibility errors from install.
If you want to try it out, you can download it from Archive.org if you search for "iSCSI 1.06".
