I have a small ssd C: drive with Windows 10 on it and a D: drive that is 1 TB.  I'd like to install all programs and data onto the D: drive. I tried making changes in the storage section of settings, but it doesn't seem to work.  Anyone with ideas?

Hi DJ. I'm Greg, an installation specialist and 9 year Windows MVP, here to help you.

I would not move Programs off of the SSD as they benefit along with WIndows the most from the faster SSD speed.

Instead I'd move your User folders off after sorting all files into them, following this tutorial: http://www.dummies.com/computers/operating-syst...

Then use a free flexible imaging program like Macrium to save a System Image to the storage drive of C so you can restore it in 20 minutes if it ever becomes irreparable, and you files are linked and current in their separate drive home. https://www.howtogeek.com/howto/7363/macrium-re...

I hope this helps. Feel free to ask back any questions and let us know how it goes. I will keep working with you until it's resolved.

    Hi,

There is a very limited option of doing this in Windows. If you go to Settings > System > Storage > Change where new content is saved. If you change your apps option here any Windows 10 UWP based apps. Namely those installed from the store will install here. However non Windows 10 apps will need to have their install locations changed manually when installing each one. There is not currently a global setting to ensure a location for all programs. So a per program basis is your only option.

I hope that answers your question.

    Hi,

storage settings are applied to Store apps. Classic apps need to point disk during installation process.

If you have classic apps on disk C: you need to remove them than reinstall.
