Windows File Explorer returns to default folder

I have this problem - this totally annoying problem - that I cannot fix. First, whenever I open it up and begin to scroll down, it jumps back to the top. I may have found a fix for that one. Second, whenever I go to a certain folder and select a file and open it, I intend to continue work in that folder for a while. Perhaps, all day. But after a while, I may need another file in that folder, but when I go back to it, the view has changed to the default folder. There are options to change the default folder. But how about an option for not moving me when I don't want to be moved? Why is this even a thing? There is an icon to go to "Recent Places" or "This PC" in a single click. But it takes several to get back to where I was. How is that at all helpful to ANYONE on ANY LEVEL? I've done the slide show thing and that's not the issue. This shouldn't even be a thing.

Though it should not move, there is a left arrow icon on top which should take you to the last folder. (ALT+LEFT Arrow key should also take you to the last folder)

However, you can try running SFC/DISM to see whether the default (right) behaviour of File Explorer is restored or not.

Well, in fact, it does move. It goes there as if it is opening up for the first time. Therefore, there is nothing to go back to. That arrow (and ALT+LEFT) works if I navigate to another folder and want to go back to the start. But, there it nothing before the page I am being taken to. Jut have to go all over again through clicking all of the folders to get to the sub-folder I need. Very frustrating. A functionality I'm sure no one asked for was put into the program? Horrible. Just plain horrible.
