Hello,

We are having some space issue with our storage and we are planning to shrink some of the Virtual Disk that are assign to some of our Hyper-V Guest machines.

Is editing the Virtual HD on the Hyper-V Manager and doing a compact will do this? I am actually looking for an option to appear like for how much I wanted to shrink the VHD but when I click next it just start the compact process.

Also, is compacting this VHD really takes long time to finish? Any estimate how long so I do have an idea? I am planning to shrink 2 VHD one from 300GB to 150GB and the other is from 2TB to 1TB.

Hello, I have already shrink the partition on the Guest level but I need to reclaim 150GB back to our storage.

Shrinking will automatically make the VHD files as small as possible based on the files that are on them.

If you want to change the Partition size, then you need to do that inside the guest. You can then Shrink those to the size of actual file used space.
