Non-Domain Servers stopped communicating with WSUS Server with the February 2021 Patch Release

2021-02-26T14:12:15.333+00:00

Our non-domain servers stopped communicating with our W2K16 WSUS Server after installing the February 9, 2021 patches; 4601392 W2K16 Servicing Stack, and 4601318 W2K16 Cumulative Update. Our servers check into WSUS through their WSUS registry entries using port 8530 every 3 hours. The patches were installed and the servers rebooted, then communication stopped.

    Hello,

Thanks for your posting on this forum.

The error code 0X80244022 indicate that the service is temporarily overloaded. Please refer to the below:

0x80244022 -2145107934 WU_E_PT_HTTP_STATUS_SERVICE_UNAVAIL Same as HTTP status 503 - the service is temporarily overloaded.

Delete the software distribution folder and reset the Windows component may help.

Our servers check into WSUS through their WSUS registry entries using port 8530 every 3 hours.
Have you enabled the following policy on the clients? Did all the clients enabled this policy? Please help to provide the screenshot to help me research further.

As we all know, the Automatic Updates detection frequency policy is used to specify the hours that Windows will use to determine how long to wait before checking for available updates. But it is not recommended to set that the detection frequency is too fast. It will overload the WSUS Server. (The default interval hours is 22)

Hope the above will be helpful. Please feel free to inform me if there are any questions.

    Regards,
    Rita
