Have to many files of same thing how to get it back to just one of each?

Question

Have added new files on front screen of computer and at times saved things in them like kindle but if you go some place else there is also kindle how do you know which is the right one to keep and which you should delete. I ask because i play sims 3 games and i have put the game in a few folders but would like to clean up the computer and only have the one of each thing but do not want to loose stuff for the game. I hope i have given enough information to help me.

how do you know which is the right one to keep and which you should delete.

As Reza-Ameri commented, you don't just want to go around deleting applications that have gone through the installer. If you find the Kindle.exe or Sim3.exe (I don't know their actual names) in multiple folders and you can't remember why you put them there, you could run regedit and search the registry for that folder to see if the installer has referenced the folder..

You would have to decide based on folder location, date modified, and file contents, which files should be saved and which should be deleted.

Only you can make that determination.

The sims 3 i have a file in a few places with the sims 3 name on it. I would like to just have one how do i get it narrowed to the right one and delete all the rest? there are other things like this one i thought hey lets have a back up here and here but have figured out it is not a great idea for that now.

In The Sims 3, your saved game data is always located in the C:\Users\<your username>\Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3 folder

I think you could backup all of your sims 3 saved game, then completely delete sims 3 on everywhere you can find it, then reinstall sims 3, restore the saved game.
