Open teams meeting link on linux doens't work

on version: 1.4.00.4855 of teams it isn't possible for me to use a link to go in a teams meeting.
How can I resolve the problem?

I started experiencing this issue with Teams somewhere during this week on 1.3.00.30857 and uninstalled and upgraded to 1.4.00.4855 using the .deb package hoping that this would address the issue, but it doesn't appear to solve it.

It is quite annoying in attempting to join meetings and I had to revert using the browser version. Clicking the open in xdg-open link does take me to Teams, but doesn't launch the join meeting screen.

I would appreciate if this could be looked at since it was working fine until recently.

I experience the same issue on Fedora 33 with the RPM version of Teams. I get links to meetings in e-mails or Google Calendar and usually clicking the link would open the meeting in the Teams client. Following the update to 1.4.00.4855 the client is still opened, but it doesn't join the meeting. It doesn't emit any error messages.

You can find the deb packages here
Just download the version from 01-Dec-2020. You can also see how frequently we receive updates for the teams linux client.

sudo apt install teams=1.3.00.30857 should install the precise version 1.3.00.30857, if you have installed MS Teams from the dedicated APT repository

A colleague of mine has found out that the last line in /usr/bin/teams is messed up. It needs to read:

nohup "$TEAMS_PATH" "$@" --disable-namespace-sandbox --disable-setuid-sandbox > "$TEAMS_LOGS/teams-startup.log" 2>&1 &

That is, the "$@" basically just needs to move further to the left.

On Linux Mint 18.3 with Cinnamon desktop this workaround enables using the browser link "start now": the desktop app with the correct meeting is opened. However, for some reason calling teams on the command line with modified link (change https: to msteams:) does not open the meeting.

Nevermind, I am satisfied that there is at least one way to open meetings in the teams app. Thanks for sharing.

Now, this issue is fixed in Teams for Linux version 1.4.00.7556(64-bit).
If your client is the older one, please update to the latest version.

Linux Mint 20.1. Same problem. Fixed per the instructions by @Marcus above.

One key item: you must be part of a Teams organization, even if it's just your family org.

Clearly Microsoft is not doing enough testing for their desktop Linux software. They probably have thousands of developers for Linux on Azure, but only one intern for Teams on Linux. Disappointing.

i have done the above suggested fix, but the app still requests me to login to the meeting. but if i join the meeting using the option to @continue on this browser" i am able to connect to the meeting without entering my email. i am a guest to a schools virtual meeting so i dont have a loin. i am using linux mint (latest version) and teams 1.4.00.4855

my windows 10 laptop doesnt have the issue and when i join using the app it goes straight into the meeting

Suddenly, this thing happens again. Teams version 1.5.00.23861.

After clicking on mail link invitation, I can't even click on the website "Join On The Teams App" button, is not working.

Seems deliberate ? No more Desktop version ? No more Linux Desktop version ?

I have tried to downgrade to an older version of Microsoft Teams... but Microsoft deleted all 1.4.00.* and 1.3.00.* versions from their repository. So there is no way to downgrade right now to resolve this problem.

How can this software be so bad....

Bad development, no support - they are sabotaging linux users for years. Skype, Teams are just a few examples of horrible apps. Microsoft and Nvidia are the worst when it comes to linux and seems like its on purpose.

This problem is back AGAIN in 2023 in Teams version 1.5.00.23861 on Linux (Ubuntu).

Could you provide us a screenshot of the error message if possible?

Does this issue exist all the time or just appear in the new version?

Does anyone else have the same issue?

I tested in my lab. The result is the same when I use Microsoft Teams - Insiders.

Currently, only Microsoft Teams – Insiders have version 1.4.00.4855. When you open teams meeting link in browser, it will open Microsoft Teams-Preview, not Microsoft Teams - insiders. If you only install Microsoft Teams - insiders, it cannot join a meeting in Teams client by meeting link from browser.

The workaround is to send the meeting link in conversation. Then open the meeting link in the chat window as below:

Another workaround is to join the meeting from calendar as below:

We will work on this problem. If there is any update, I will share with you here.

Now, we also installed Microsoft Teams preview with version 1.4.00.4855. The problem is the same with Microsoft Teams insiders in the same version.
