Standard ILB Query for SAP

Hello Experts,

We are planning to move our SAP workload to Azure. I have some related queries.

1> We are planning to keep our ASCS and Web Despatcher behind standard ILB. Is it recommended to place both behind a single instance of standard ILB or should we separate it. e.g. One instance of standard ILB for ASCS+ERS and another instance for Web Despatcher.

2> As per pricing it says based on rules and data transfer. So is it based on rules configured per instance of LB? Means if I separate standard LB for ASCS+ERS, Web Despatcher and HANA DB and each instance has 1 rule with HA port enabled will it be considered as 3 rules only (within the limit of 5 rules)? or price will be multiplied by 3 because of 3 instances (each LB instance < 5 rules)?

    @Souvik Mazumdar

    Apologies in delayed response. I checked with internal team on your ask.

    We foresee in our reference architecture the usage of separate ILBs for the DBMS layer and the ASCS/SCS layer. Related to Webdispatcher it depends on the SAP release and whether you can use the build-in WD of the ASCS/SCS as this should work with more recent NetWeaver or S/4HANA stacks. Also be aware that there are some considerations around the Standard SKU of the ILB which re documented here.

    As of the pricing, you check on our price calculator how things work: Pricing Calculator. When you start using it, it is obvious that the each instances of the ILB is charged separately.

    Hope this helps.
