One DPM storage volume running out of space - why?

I'm running DPM 2019 on Server 2016 with modern storage. I have 4 x drives in the storage pool. One of them has exceeded the 90% limit but DPM seems incapable of using free space on the other drives. Can anyone tell me why?

The warning message is as follows:

Description: The used space on the DPM storage pool volume F:\ has exceeded the threshold value of 90%. If you do not expand the volume, backup jobs may fail. (ID 33514)

Recommended action: Expand the storage pool volume or move storage for some data sources to other storage pool volumes.

Hi Andy. I came across your post while researching a separate issue I'm having with DPM 2016. I hope you'll understand the brief reply as I want to help but I need to get back to my issue...

Essentially, when you create a protection group or add new data sources, you select the DPM storage volume that will host the data. Unfortunately, you need to manage balancing the data across your 4 volumes. Without a crystal ball to know how much each data source is going to grow over time, you will inevitably need to shift things around occasionally. The good news is that you can move your backup data between volumes easily:

I haven't had to do this in since about DPM 2012 RTM. It looks like things have improved greatly with 2016+.

    I hope this helps.

    Good luck,
    Steve

    Hi,

I found a similar post about the issue, for your reference:

Besides, I found it seems the dedicated forum for DPM has been closed, and there's limited information about this issue in Internet, if you would like to get further help about DPM, it's recommended to open a case with MS. Thanks for your understanding!

Below is the link to open a case with MS:

    Thanks for your time!

    Hi anonymous userChips

I feel your pain.. if you click on the F: drive you should see all DPM resource on that drive at the bottom window.
Is there a specific resource that is using a lot of disks space?
You can try move the resource with DPM to another disk. That could solve you'r problem.

I think it has to do something with the way DPM creates the replica and stores the recovery points together on one drive. If you add an object to a recovery group you can chose the target storage. It does not load balance by itself.
