Activating Windows Server 2016 Standard

We used to activate our Windows 10 VMs through a KMS server so all these while there's been no issues.

But now we have a VM in our DMZ network which had no access to internal networks, KMS activation is not possible.

Tried activating using MAK key, but upon entering the key and activating, it prompts for an edition upgrade to datacenter version. From Microsoft portal,

the keys for Standard and Datacenter are the same. For company policy purpose, we are to use Standard version, not datacentre. Help!
