Thanks Greg. The only way I have solved this previously is to roll back to the previous Windows10 as every update has this effect. The Driver for my Dell screen is correct and has worked perfectly until the latest updates (last 6 months). When I go into Drivers for the monitor in Settings, after an update, the Dell driver is gone. I have put it back and asked for updates to it and there are none so that should not be the issue.

If I roll back to the old W10 everything will be fine except I would be running an old W10 which may have issues addressed in the updates. I also get constant reminders to update which is a pain in the proverbial !

I am not proficient at this stuff and unsure what you mean by hiding updates as they seem to be required.

Hi Arf. I'm Greg, an installation specialist and 9 year Windows MVP, here to help you.

Update the Display driver from the PC maker's Support Downloads web page for your exact model number, HP Serial Number or Dell Service Tag - from the sticker on the PC.

While there check also for newer chipset, BIOS, network, sound, USB3 and other drivers, comparing to the ones presently installed in Device Manager reached by right clicking the Start Menu.

if this doesn't give you the latest or ideal driver for what you need, compare it to the driver offered by the Intel driver update Utility here: http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/...

or the Nvidia Update utility here: http://www.nvidia.com/Download/Scan.aspx?lang=e...

or the AMD autodect utility here: http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/windows/P...

For Display issues one fix that is working is to Roll back or Uninstall the Driver on the Display Device > Driver tab, restart PC to reinstall driver.

You can also try older drivers in Device Manager > Display device > Driver tab > Update Driver > Browse > Let Me Pick.

Then you will know you've tried everything in addition to Windows Update drivers.

if this was caused by Windows Updates then you can check which were installed at Settings>Update & Security>Windows Update under Installed Updates, then uninstall them from the link there, and hide with the Hide Updates tool downloaded from here: http://download.microsoft.com/download/f/2/2/f2...

You can also use System Restore to get before the problem began, then check for Updates with the Hide Update tool and hide them: http://home.bt.com/tech-gadgets/computing/how-t...

I hope this helps. Feel free to ask back any questions and let us know how it goes. I will keep working with you until it's resolved.

But the driver may not work for the latest version, which is why I gave you every possible way to find a newer or older one that might work.

Otherwise I gave you how to do a simple System Restore to before the Update or Go back in Recovery Settings to get before a Version Update - and then how to block the Update once you confirm it causes the problems more than once which is often all that it will interfere.

I will work with you to do what is needed to keep Windows 10 running, even on hardware that is becoming deprecated by newer versions - including if necessary providing older version media to reinstall, repair or maintain an older version. Blocking Updates are easier although it may require turning them off briefly via a Metered Connection until you can find and block the problem Update.

If you don't want to hide or shut off updates in general, you could stop getting driver updates.

Since you seem to have a driver problem.
