Mouse Selection Behavior

I recently bought a new computer.  My previous computer as well as the new one both run Windows 10.  However, there is a significant difference when I click on different windows in the new computer.

I used to click once when going back to a window to make it "live" and then I could use the window.  Now it automatically places the pointer where I click.

So, if I highlight text in one window, and then click on another window, copy and paste info there, and then click back on the other window, the text I highlighted to replace is no longer highlighted.  Sorry, this is difficult to explain.

I am not sure I understand your questions.  However, I did try what you suggested and it did not work.  I am not sure what to do next.

Highlight the text you want to paste elsewhere

Right click with the pointer on the highlighted area

Go to the page you wish to paste the text on.

Left click and highlight the text you wish to replace.

I then hit Backspace or Enter to erase the unwanted text.

Right Click in the beginning area of the sentence or page where you wish to paste > Select Paste.

If you're using Microsoft Edge, I've reported it to Feedback Hub for the same behavior. It's frustrating when you're attempting to do something and find you're suddenly in the wrong tab or wrong place on the document where you wish to paste. I'm constantly having to correct.

Use Feedback Hub and report Edge's behavior.

You might try Refreshing Edge and if that doesn't resolve the issue, Reset the browser.

I thank you very much for your response, and I apologize, but I think I did a poor job of explaining.  Let me try one more time. I do not think it is an error, but I wanted to know if there is any way to change the setting.

    Example on the old computer:

Document 1: Select/Highlight text I want to replace

Document 2: Select and copy text

Document 1: Click on document once to activate it and hit Control+V

Outcome: Text is pasted where I selected/highlighted text before going to document 2

    Example on the new computer:

Document 1: Select/Highlight text I want to replace

Document 2: Select and copy text

Document 1: Click on document once to activate it and hit Control+V

Outcome: Text is pasted wherever I clicked on the document to activate it

You used to click once on the window before you could move the cursor, and now the cursor moves on the first click, if that makes any sense.

    Hi, Jonathans_429,

Questions: When you copy text, is your cursor in the highlighted area?

When you paste text, is it not appearing in the other tab area?

If the cursor is not in the highlighted area when you copy, it will resort to non-highlighted text.

Right click on Start > Select Device Manager

Right click on Mouse Driver > Select Uninstall

Reboot the computer and Windows will reload the driver.

If the issue persists, run Windows Update > Scan for Updates

You might also check the computer manufacturer's site for an updated driver.
