How to check DPI on PNG

Hello All,

I would like to check DPI of PNG files for printing, but properties>details  only shows for JPG. The whole resolution section is missing for PNG.

Is there another route for the PNG in windows?

I do not have photoshop. I know about converters, but they don't show the DPI.

Any input would be welcome, Thanks Mary

    Hi marycas5000

A png image is ideal for web and usually is 96dpi, for printing the ideal dpi is 300

If the pixels are not there initially changing the dpi will not make the image clearer, just bigger . . .

Right click any png image and choose Open with - choose another app - Paint

When the image opens in Paint, choose File - Properties to see the DPI of that png image

You can if you wish save that image in paint to a different format, like jpg . . etc. but it will not be any clearer . . .

EDIT - a trick that does work sometimes to improve the image quality is to open that image in Windows and then take a screenshot of that image and save the screenshot as a jpg . . .

Thank you so much Dave. The DPI is clearly in paint. I still don't understand DPI for printing, but this is amazing.

    Be Well, Mary
