    Hi RichardTinajero ,

Thank you for writing to Microsoft Community Forums.

    1. Which build of Windows 10 are you currently using on your system? You can refer this link to Check for operating system information in Windows 10.
    2. Do you have any security software installed on the computer?

However, I suggest you to follow the below steps, and check if that helps.

Method 1: Disable security software and check.

Sometimes, security software like antivirus and firewall can also cause such issues. So I suggest you to temporarily disable any third party security software that you have installed and check.

    1. Click the small triangle at the right bottom corner of the taskbar.
    2. Right-click the antivirus icon
    3. Select the option to disable your antivirus program

Disclaimer: If you have Windows 10, you’ll get the latest antivirus protection with Windows Defender. When you start up Windows 10 for the first time, Windows Defender is on and actively helping to protect your PC by scanning for malware (malicious software), viruses, and security threats. Windows Defender uses real-time protection to scan everything you download or run on your PC. Windows Update downloads updates for Windows Defender automatically to help keep your PC safe and protect it from threats.

Method 2: Check if the services are running.

Volume Shadow Copy service and Windows backup service are the two essential services required to perform Windows backup. Apart from these essential services, there are dependency services such as Remote Procedure Call which are required to run Windows backup utility. To do so, follow the below steps.

    1. Go to start and type services.msc in the search field and select the first search result.
    2. Locate the two services.
    3. Right-Click on the service one at a time.
    4. Select properties.
    5. Go to Dependencies Tab.
    6. Note the dependency services.
    7. Make sure they’re also running.

Method 3: Turn off the System Protection.

I suggest you to turn off the System Protection and then turn it back on and then check if the backup is successful this time.

    1. Right-click the Start Menu and open System in the Quick Access Menu and select System protection on the left.
    2. Choose the location or the drive and click Configure.
    3. Select Disable system protection and hit OK.
    4. Choose Yes to have system protection disabled.
    5. Re-boot, and go through the process to turn the system protection back on. After you've selected OK, try your back up.

    We await your response.

    Regards,
