Microphone only captures static.

Hello, I have recentrly bought some headphones with a built in mic, and they worked "fine". However, after I disconnected and reconnected them, the mic turned to literally create static out of thin air. This is a problem that has been occuring with pretty much any mic, so I'm confident it's a problem within the computer. The headphones I'm using now, have also shown these static problems, but since they went away naturally, I didn't pay attention to it. I have reinstalled the drivers, updated and downgraded to a previous date, used the front and back jacks and checked the volume settings. Predictably, none of them worked, and the mic still doesn't captures anything and creates static out literal thin air. Please, help.

Hello. Thank you for replying to my question.

I've tried all the potential fixes but none of them worked. In fact, some of them weren't applicable, like the second solution, in wich the rollback driver option is greyed out and unable to be selected. Out of curiosity however, why is it that messing with the audio and troubleshooting the audio could fix problems with the mic?

    Hello LucasMonteiro4

    Please follow these steps

    1.Run the troubleshooter

    Open Settings.

    Click on Update & Security.

    Click on Troubleshoot.

    Select the Playing Audio option.

Click the Run the troubleshooter button.

    If That didn't work

    2.Rollback the drivers

Go to Device Manager > select audio inputs and outputs > right click in the Speakers > Properties> Drivers > Roll back Driver

3.Try update or uninstall and reinstall the drivers

    How update drivers

Go to Device Manager > select audio inputs and outputs > right click in the Speakers > Update driver

    If that didn't work

    Uninstall and install the drivers

Go to Device Manager > select audio inputs and outputs > right click in the Speakers > Uninstall Restart your PC, and Windows will attempt to reinstall the driver.

If Windows doesn't find a new driver, you can try looking for one on the device manufacturer's website and follow their instructions.

    I hope it helps

I'm having the same exact problem with a 2 week old PC.  None of the solutions that were mentioned worked.  So frustrating!
