Recent update - cannot scan using Windows SMB

I have 2 windows 7 machines that I use to scan documents to from a copier using SMB.  It has worked perfectly until recent updates were made.  Now there is a communication error.  I can scan to windows 10 machines with no problem so it does not look like a network or copier problem.  copier can ping machines and machines can ping the copier.  both machines can print to the copier.  Is anyone else having this issue?

I have a 3rd Windows 7 machine that i couldn't scan to but after I did a pre-update restore point I could scan to it.  I did restore points on the other 2 but that didn't work for them.

Can you access the Windows 7 machines from a Windows 10 machine?

I suspect you're experiencing the networking bug introduced by a recent Windows Update (see https://www.askwoody.com/2019/january-patches-for-win7-kb-4480970-and-kb-4480960-break-networking/)

Microsoft created a fix but you have to download it manually.  See https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/4487345/update-for-windows-7-sp1-and-windows-server-2008-r2
