Windows 10 PIN request

After the latest update, after I boot up and before I log on, Windows asks me to create a PIN. Is this request legitimate? Can I turn this off? This is a PC without touchscreen or camera for facial recognition.

The newer computers, whether touchscreen or laptop, are asking for a PIN instead of a password.  It is for your security.

    Thank you for responding:

MargiLankford I appreciate knowing the PIN request is from Microsoft and not a virus.

Alberto-Ortega Since I had never set up a PIN, although your procedure got me to that screen, there was nothing to undo or delete.

Graeme.P your  procedure worked and when I clicked the dismiss link the options for Hello disappeared. I haven't rebooted yet but I am hopeful.

    Thanks,

Hi PWWilson, thanks for your question. I'm Graeme, a Microsoft Community expert and fellow user.

Try this solution, suggested by user Dave on the site below:

    https://superuser.com/questions/1322150/how-do-...

"Log on, cancel the PIN prompt as in the OP. Then, when you're at the desktop, click the Windows Defender Security Centre icon on the tray. Under "Account Protection", it should say "Set up Windows Hello for faster, more secure sign-in".

If you click "Set-up", it will prompt you to set up a pin, so don't do that. Instead, click "Dismiss" and that should be that. After doing this, my laptop stopped prompting me to set up a pin on logon!"

Let me know if you're still seeing the prompt after trying this! Thanks!
