Missing or corrupt driver

Anonymous

The Drive Properties screen shows Code 39, driver corrupted or missing.  Computer has been restarted several times but no fix.  I am not confident or experienced enough to install a driver or know what is best for my computer, Dell Inspiron 17 (purchased 2011).  How hard is it to install a driver?

Below is what came up, even after restarting:

    Should be an easy fix, what hardware or device isn't working? Lately some of the older unit have been struggling to get the proper drivers through windows. Anything pre2015 mainly. I own two older dell xps and one current alienware. The alien is from last year and had no driver issues after updates. The Dells' however were a nightmare I spent a considerable amount of time manually download and installing drivers from Dell but they are 100% functional webcam, touchscreen and all. If you tell me what devices aren't working I can say with a high degree of certainty I can help you get the drivers you need.

    Tell me what device aren't working?

    Looking forward to helping you,
    Yomi Thomas

    If the device is an optical drive (CD-ROM, DVD-ROM) can you check the following registry key?:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

    At that registry key, in the right window, is there, under "Name", either an UpperFilters or LowerFilters value?

    If so, for each of the UpperFilters and/or LowerFilters value, what is listed under "Data"?

    If the device is not an optical drive post back.

    Thanks for the fast responce. Im running a Compaq Presario SR1550NX  the dvd/rom is a HP DVD 640 "HP LIGHTSCRIBE" heres a picture of the registry you had me check: Im not seeing anything you asked about....
