Black screen issues after updates

So far EVERY update in the last 2 years to Windows 10 has created a black screen event on my desktop where nothing but a black screen is visible after doing the restart. This ONLY happens after updates and EVERY update. I did a reformat only 6months tops ago because that lot of updates just completely killed the OS and it couldn't recover so it's not an old install and not full of small rubbish addon programs (not that I install them anyway).

GA mobo with i7 4770, GA or Asus (can't remember) GTX1070 gfx card, 32gb ram. Operates flawlessly outside of updates and only ever gets reboot perhaps once every couple of months usually because it's that stable when not having a half baked downgrade (update) thrown at it.

I'm ready to dump Windows 10 entirely with this rubbish behaviour as it causes so much down time. So will at this rate be heading back to 8.1 (+start menu addon) or 7 OR TO CENTOS. If this black screen bs can be sorted then fine I'll give it a last try but since you won't allow us to completely 100% ignore updates (which is just ethically very wrong) I'll be forced to go to the other alternatives if it doesn't work.

This mornings episode acted exactly the same as it usually does, just nothing when you restart the computer (well fans and lights but no on-screen action). Press the reset button a couple of times and still nothing. Press the reset button 4th or 5th time and it sometimes comes back sometimes doesn't (didn't last time did this time).

Is there any fix for this behaviour which I see many people are getting or does MS just not care any more? I know your support team for Office365 hosting is rubbish as there's been issues there for over 12months and it's a paid service. I've lost confidence in Microsoft as a whole lately.

You seem to miss the point entirely of just what a black screen is. When this happens there is nothing until up to a half dozen resets where it finally starts to come good.

Does your screen go black before or after you log in and can you see your mouse? If it's after and you can still see your mouse on screen then you might have the same problem I had, your drivers aren't automatically updating.

When I finally figured out my problem, I started to download my drivers manually. Now every time windows gives me the notification that it's going to update I go to Intel and Nvidia to see if I have the latest updates before I update windows. I haven't had any issues with a black screen since.

HOW do you select clean boot or ANYTHING for that matter when you are locked on a black screen and it refuses to boot? I didn't say before I login. When it goes to restart after doing updates there is just NOTHING. So there is no ability to select anything when it just locks and won't boot or display anything and locks in that state for over 12hours.

As for security the only TSR protection on it is Defender and I won't disable anti virus' for anyone even if it is only Defender. Defender however would have nothing to do with this as it is a refusal to boot not a slow boot.

    Clean Boot Disclaimer:

A “clean boot” starts Windows with a minimal set of drivers and startup programs, so that you can determine whether a background program is interfering with your game or program.

Your computer may temporarily lose some functionality while in a clean boot environment, however that functionality will return when you reset the computer to start normally after you have finished your troubleshooting.

Disable Antivirus or security software disclaimer:

If you have Windows 10, you’ll get the latest antivirus protection with Windows Defender. When you start up Windows 10 for the first time, Windows Defender is on and actively helping to protect your PC by scanning for malware (malicious software), viruses, and security threats. Windows Defender uses real-time protection to scan everything you download or run on your PC. Windows Update downloads updates for Windows Defender automatically to help keep your PC safe and protect it from threats.

Thank you for writing to Microsoft Community Forums.

May I know which update was installed?

Perform the steps listed to Troubleshoot black screen or blank screen errors.
