Hi

this morning when powering up my lenovo ideapad 100S, it booted straight to Bitlocker and is now asking for a recovery Key.

I have never been prompted for this before and have had the device from new.

i have checked my account and there is not Bitlocker key saved there and I cannot recall even being prompted to create one since owing the device or when booting up for the very 1st time.

I know it is only a cheap laptop but it is good just for surfing the web and basic stuff so would like to find the mystery Bitlocker key?

here is a screen shot for your reference, hope you can help me out.

Cheers Ross

Check here: https://one drive.live.com/recoverykey to see if Windows automatically uploaded the key.

    Or:

    1. Restart the system.
    2. At the Lenovo Logo keep tapping F2 or whichever key allows access to the BIOS screen.
    3. You will enter the BIOS screen
    4. Under General
    5. Select Boot Sequence.
    6. Select UEFI
    7. Select Apply.
    8. Under “Security” select TPM 2.0 Security
    9. Select Enable and click on Apply.
    10. Under “Secure Boot”
    11. Select Secure Boot Enable
    12. Select Enable.
    13. Click on Apply. Once these steps are done, restart the system.

    OR:

On another device enter the website that comes up in the bitlocker screen. Your outlook email will come up, enter your email you use for windows and than password, it will than ask for you to choose one of your recovery emails, choose one and than confirm it by typing it in also, it will send you a code to that email, go to that email and than you have the code to enter. go back to the regular email and press you have code and than enter it. Than you will have 1 to 3 different bitlocker codes to unlock your hard drive and get back to windows. Try all 3 until one of them works on the bitlocker screen.

Hi Ross. I'm Greg, an installation specialist and 9 year Windows MVP, here to help you.

This is the most productive resource I've found on this issue which is apparently widespread and affects more than Dell - it is just their forums that have the best solutions found in this lengthy thread - including booting in safe mode and then disabling BitLocker, signing into Azure to locate a Bitlocker key the owner had no idea he had, and others:

    https://www.dell.com/community/Windows-10/BitLo...

If nothing in there helps then I'd open multi-front requests with Lenovo Support (which is equally good) and Microsoft Support by one of these methods: https://partner.support.services.microsoft.com/...

    Hi Greg.

Thanks for the fast reply and the hyber links.

i have checked my Microsoft account again and there is not bitlocker key there.

also check the lenovo link but refers me back to my Microsoft account, so no help either.

I've never been prompted to create bitlocker key since owning the laptop so now im also wondering if it is maybe a hardware fault causing this problem?

    thanks
