Printer continually prints the same thing

I have an HP Officejet 4630 printer that my HP laptop uses.  The laptop has Windows 10, Version 1803, OS 17134.345.  As soon as I log into the computer, my printer will continually print the last job that I printed.  I'll hit cancel and it will stop it, only to start again a few seconds later.  If I turn it off, it starts to print as soon as it turns on again.  There is nothing showing in my queue.  Any ideas?

Thanks in advance for any help.

    Hi DMG612

Try manually clearing the Print Queue - just in case there may be a problem with the queue reporting

    Click Start.

    Type cmd

Right-click “Command Prompt” and select “Run as administrator“

Run the following commands and hit enter after each one:

    net stop spooler

    del %systemroot%\System32\spool\printers\* /Q

    net start spooler

The print queue on your Windows should now be cleared.

Type exit and hit Enter to close Command Prompt

If the above does not resolve this, please follow the instructions from the page below on the HP website to reset that printer:

Before proceeding with the troubleshooting steps, Connect your Printer to the computer and Switch it ON. In case of Wireless printer, Switch it ON and connect it to the Wifi network.

    1. Run printer troubleshooter

Type Troubleshoot in Windows Start Search box > Click Troubleshoot > On the right side, Click Printer > Run the troubleshooter

If you have HP Printer - HP provides a tool for HP printers to troubleshoot - HP Print and Scan Doctor. Download it, launch it and follow the onscreen directions to locate problems and fix them

    Download Link - http://ftp.hp.com/pub/printers/hppsdr/HPPSdr.exe

    1. Update Printer Driver

Download printer driver from printer manufacturer's website and reinstall.

    1. Uninstall and reinstall the Printer (Credit to Andre Da Costa, MVP for providing steps)

    A. Uninstall Printer

Click on Windows Key+X > Apps and Features > Scroll down and click Programs and Features > Select your printer > Select Uninstall

Type Printer in Windows Search box > Printers & Scanners > Select your printer > Remove device

Type Printer in Windows Search box > Click Printers & Scanners > Scroll down and click Print server properties under Related settings > Under Driver tab, look for your printer > Select it and click Remove button at the bottom

    B. Install Printer

Go to the Printer manufacturer’s website and search for the latest Windows 10 drivers > Reinstall the Printer driver > Reboot the computer

Type Printer in Windows Start Search box > Click Printers & Scanners > On Right side, Click Add a printer or scanner > If Windows detects your printer, it will be listed > Select the printer and follow on screen directions to set it up (In case of Wifi printer, your computer should also be logged into Wifi network)

If Windows doesn't detect your printer, then you will get a blue message - Click The printer that I want isn't listed

If you are using Bluetooth / Wirelss printer > Select Add a Bluetooth, wireless or network discoverable printer > Choose the printer > Select your Printer and follow on screen directions

If you are using wired printer > Select Add a local printer or network printer with manual settings > Select Use an existing port > Select your Printer and follow on screen directions

    1. Clear Spooler

Type Services in Windows Start Search Box > Click Services > Scroll down to Print Spooler > Right-click and choose Stop for the Print Spooler service > Go to C:\WINDOWS\System32\spool\PRINTERS. You can also type %windir%\System32\spool\PRINTERS into the address bar in Explorer if the C drive is not the default Windows partition > Delete all the files in this folder > Services console and right-click and choose Start for the Print Spooler service

In the search box type Control Panel then select the Desktop app result. In Control Panel select Devices and Printers. In that window right-click on the associated printer and select See what's printing from the dropdown context menu. In the resulting window you can choose the Printer tab and select Cancel all documents or choose the Documents tab and select the individual document and choose to cancel it/them one at a time.

Hope this helps, let us know how it goes and good luck!

    -Richard

Good day! I apologize that you are having this issue and I am hoping we can work through it and fix it.

What all have you tried so far? If you haven't tried it, you may attempt to fix spooler issues and clear the spooler service.

The same or similar issue was posted here: https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/for...

Go through the troubleshooting and spooler troubleshooting here.

I also believe this is a spooler issue because the same printer had a problem on hp forums and it was fixed by clearing the spooler: https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Inkjet-Printing/p...

I hope this helped you :)
