Good morning sirs,

I'd like to enter in this network path, pointing to another W10 PC.

I succeed in 3 other clients, except from a PC, and I get this error:78402-image.png

with \192.168.1.35 or \andrea i get the same error

I don't understand why I get this problem only in 1 client. Can you help?

    Hi,

Thanks for posting in Q&A platform.

Before we go further, I would like to confirm the following information with you:

    1. Can you ping the IP address 192.168.1.35 sucessfully?
    2. What's the OS version of your Windows 10 client? 2004 or 20H2? Please patch your windows 10 OS with fully windows updates.
    3. Please check SMB client log on windows 10 and SMB server log on file server. Then see if there is something related for us to troubleshooting.

    Best Regards,
    Sunny

    Hi,

Thank you very much for your feedback.

Regarding of the attached screenshot, I noticed it's a .etl file which is one kind of trace for deeper troubleshooting and this kind of file can only be deciphered in our Microsoft internal team.

If you want to know deeper about the .etl trace results, I would suggest you open a case with Microsoft where more in-depth investigation can be done so that you would get a more satisfying explanation to this question.

For how to check SMB client log and SMB server log, please refer to the following detailed steps.

If the windows 10 client needs to access to shared folder on host with IP 192.168.1.35, then the windows 10 client is SMB client and the host is SMB server. Please kindly logon the SMB client and check the SMBClient log in Event viewer. Meanwhile please logon the SMB server and check the SMB server log in Event viewer to see whether there are related errors when issue occurred.

Looking at client error I can notice many ID31017 (something about a guest access) and ID30800 (impossible to find a server, the old one I just divested).
Why guest access? I login with my usual credentials

    Hi,

    Thank you for your feedback.

Please try the following methods to see if the issue can be resolved.

You can enable sharing of network folders and printers with password protection via the Control Panel -> Network and Sharing Center -> Advanced sharing settings. For All Networks in the “Password Protected Sharing” section, change the value to the “Turn on password protected sharing”. In this case, anonymous (guest) access to the network share folders will be disabled and you will have to create local users, grant them access permissions to the shared folders and printers and use these accounts to connect to the shared folders on a remote computer.

If the issue still existed, please try to enable under guest account from your computer, you need to use the Group Policy Editor (gpedit.msc). Go to the section: Computer Configuration -> Administrative templates -> Network -> Lanman Workstation. Find and enable the policy Enable insecure guest logons. These policy settings determine whether the SMB client will allow unsafe guest logon to the SMB server.

    Hello @Andrea Vironda ,

The trace just shows two attempts to establish an SMB session:

    80288-z8.jpg

The attempts "succeed" but probably only because of "Fall back to the Guest account after invalid credentials are provided" functionality - the trace shows that a "guest" session was established.

There must be something wrong/different with the credentials that you are providing...

    Gary
