All programs in the Windows PC program launcher says "new" for over a week now.

Since the last update I noticed that (almost) all programs listed on the PC launch/start menu says "new" under it even though they aren't. This includes all non-Microsoft programs. It's been like this for well over a week now. Why, and how do I get rid of it?

No, John, actually I only just noticed that some months-old apps are still labeled New. I guess that's why VG did the tutorial.

If you want to report this to Microsoft use the Feedback Hub app in Start Menu where developers are tasked to process consumer feedback. They will not even see it here. This is a tech forums staffed mostly by volunteers trying to help others with your problems.

If you want to post back a Share link from your Feedback here others who see this thread can vote it up and add to it. I will also track the issue for you.

Hey John. I'm Greg, an installation specialist, 9 year Windows MVP and Independent Advisor, here to help you.

See here how to remove the New tag on apps in Start Menu:

I hope this helps. Feel free to ask back any questions and let us know how it goes. I will keep working with you until it's resolved.

One thing I forgot to mention was if I launch one of those programs that says "new", the new goes away from the menu ** until I reboot **! Then, there it is again! I just tried it.

I hope Greg's solution is a permanent one. I'd hate to go through procedures only for it to work until I reboot.

Thanks Greg. I'll try that when I get a chance. Any idea why this happened and if it has happened to others?

    Hi John

This is a known bug in major Windows 10 Updates, those updates move so much data around, it will sometimes change the installation date on all your Software, resulting in the OS thinking they are newly installed applications

Open the old Control Panel, go to Programs and Features, has the installation date of your software changed to the date of that update?

There is currently no fix for this bug, other than opening each application so it is unmarked as new, hopefully Microsoft will resolve this bug in a future update . ..
