Multi-Touch doesn't work in Windows 10

I have an Acer V7-481P-6455 laptop which came with Windows 8 preinstalled. The Multi-Touch trackpad worked great until I upgraded to Windows 10. Now it only does single-touch. IIt has a Synaptic PS/2 Touchpad. Acer claims it doesn't support multi-touch in Windows 10 for my model. I've tried installing the drivers from Acers website didn't help. If I run Linux (Ubuntu, Linux MInt, etc) the multi-touch works perfectly.

Can anyone recommend a driver that will get multi-touch working again?

Hi WayfaringOwl757,

Thank you for posting to Microsoft Community.

I understand the importance of this feature. The system drivers are modules of code that are hardware and operating system specific. A particular device will have its own identification and the manufacturers of this device, will provide the drivers with respect to this device and the operating system for the device’s optimum functionality. Hence, if Acer doesn’t support the Multi-Touch feature for the trackpad in Windows 10, the only option would be to wait until Acer releases the drivers that supports this feature.

However, you could try and download the driver for your trackpad which was released for Windows 8 and run it in compatibility mode to check if it works. You may do that by following the steps below.

  1. You can download the appropriate driver for your trackpad for Windows 8 from Acer’s website.
  2. Right-click on the driver’s setup file and click on ‘Properties’.
  3. Click on the ‘Compatibility’ tab.
  4. Under ‘Compatibility mode’ section, click on the checkbox for ‘Run this program in compatibility mode for:’.
  5. You will be able to find the drop down menu for to select the Windows version.
  6. Select Windows 8 and click on ‘Ok’.
  7. Right-click the setup file again and select ‘Run as administrator’.
  8. Once the installation is complete, restart your system and check if the feature is working.

If the issue still persists, I would recommend you to wait until Acer releases the driver for Windows 10 on your device to support the Multi-touch feature.

Hope it helps.

Hi Aaron, I tried your suggestion and it worked! But I had to do something a little weird.

The strange thing about Acers website when I put in my serial number it lists drivers for both Synaptics and Elantech. Using a hardware profiler it told me I had a Synaptic touchpad. So first I uninstalled my current drivers and installed the Synaptic Windows 8.1 drivers in Windows compatibility mode like you suggested. Multitouch didn't work.

Then I checked and saw that I also had Elantech drivers installed, so I uninstalled them and installed the Windows 8.1 drivers in compatibility mode. IT WORKED!

After a couple years of living without two-finger scrolling I FINALLY have it back!

Unfortunately other multi-finger gestures don't seem to work, but honestly I don't care. Two-finger scrolling is all I need!

    THANKS!
