Windows Performance Recorder using 100% Disc

I recently noticed that my computer was running extremely slowly. I went into task manager and 'system' was labelled as using up to 60MB/s disc. I went into resource manager and the files causing the problem were:

  • C:\Users\zoran\AppData\Local\Temp\WPR_initiated_WprApp_WPR System Collector.etl
  • C:\Users\zoran\AppData\Local\Temp\WPR_initiated_WprApp_WPR Event Collector.etl

How can I stop this. I would prefer to not do a system reset and system restore gives me an error

I have tried disabling DiagTrack but that hasn't helped

    Hi Zoran

My name is Andre Da Costa; an Independent Consultant, Windows Insider MVP and Windows & Devices for IT MVP. I'm here to help you with your problem.

Click Start > Settings > Privacy > Feedback and diagnostics.

    Set it to basic

    Click Start

    Type: regedit

    Right click regedit

    Click Run as administrator

    Navigate to the following key:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\DataCollection.

Right click and create a DWORD value named AllowTelemetry then set

    Press Windows key + R

    Type gpedit.msc then hit Enter

Expand Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > Windows Components

In the Windows Components dialog, find and right-click on Data Collection and Preview Builds

Then double-click Allow Telemetry in the right pane

Choose Disabled and choose 3-Full from the drop-down menu.

Then click OK to save settings

Click Apply and ok > reboot computer

This didn't work for me. I have a HDD and the problem is something to do with "Windows Performance Recorder" and "Windows Performance Analyser".

If i navigate to C:\Users\zoran\AppData\Local\Temp\WPR_initiated_WprApp_WPR System Collector.etl I can see that the file size is constantly increasing. I have tried running wpr -cancel in powershell but i get the message:  There are no trace profiles running. Error code: 0xc5583000

I wouldn't mind uninstalling WPR and WPA if that would help fix it but I don't know how to.

    Thanks
